Below you will find descriptions of eco-friendly projects being carried out in our community.

This site will become the hub for all things 'Green" in the City of Pflugerville.

Recycling

Pflugerville has partnered with Progressive Waste Solutions, the city's commercial waste provider for large bin curbside recycling.  Each household in Pflugerville's city limits have recycling bins that are picked up twice monthly.  Since the program started in January 2010, the curbside recycling numbers have climbed to an average of over 266 Tons each month.  In addition, the city provides a 6-day a week recycling center located at the Public Works Department.

The Public Works Department sponsors a city-wide Clean Up Day each spring.  Residents of the city bring all of their large trash items, oil, tires, old paint and general household refuse to a designated spot on Railroad Avenue.  City workers and IESI unload and dispose of these items for you.

  • Partnered with LCRA to give out vouchers for low water toilets (2 per household)
  • Following guidelines regarding water conservation from LCRA
  • Water Sense Partner

Community Garden

The City of Pflugerville has a history of being a community with gardens and crops flourishing throughout the area. What better way to foster this tradition than Community Garden spaces? The Pecan Street Community Gardens are located next to the baseball fields in North East Metro Park (15500 Sun Light Way - enter at N. Travis Metro Park)

Community gardening offers opportunities to meet staff and neighbors knowledgeable on plants, gardening, and other organic principles while participating in hands-on planting and nurturing of their own plot in the community gardens. Join in the fun! Grab your garden tools and plant seedlings and come on out to the Gardens!

Rain barrels and compost bins are also available at a special price for residents from the Parks and Recreation Department.

Solar Panels for City Facilities
In order to minimize the electricity costs for the City, grants were acquired to purchase solar panels for the Recreation Center and for the Water Treatment Plant.

With the State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) Distributed Renewable Energy grant and funding from Oncor, the City of Pflugerville received 141 kW worth of solar panels (over 500 panels) for the City of Pflugerville's water treatment facility located at 17601 Weiss Lane

In addition to this location, the city also installed the panels on the Parks and Recreation Center. Solar panels also exist in Heritage Park, thus creating our "green" Red Barn. The solar panels at Heritage Park help power lights for the park. At the lake, solar panels are on the pavilion in addition to a solar trash compactor and a wind turbine.
